COLOMBIA
Brazil is the largest country in South America and the fifth most populous in the world. It occupies nearly half of the continent and has a varied climate. Tropical rainforests cover much of the north in the Amazon and temperate highlands in the south and east.
Brazil has become quite industrialized since the 1960's. It still depends on agriculture, which accounts for nearly 50% of its exports. Along with a variety of industrial production, there are vast arrays of mineral resources, such as iron, quartz, coal and diamonds.
The population is diverse in origin, with several types of indigenous, African and European people. Portuguese is the official language. Roman Catholicism is the major religion yet there is a large Protestant minority.
