1993 Mississippi River Flood

SPOT acquired imagery of the St. Louis area every few days during the 1993 disaster to record the evolution of the flooding. A pre-flood scene is merged with a scene of the actual flood to show the extent of the damage. The normal course of the Mississippi is shown in dark blue. The submerged areas are shown in light blue. Note the canal (straight line running south) at the intersection of the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers. It was built by the Army Corps of Engineers to contain the river in the event of a flood.
