Every summer, approximately 30 graduate and advanced undergraduate students from many different countries and universities in the United States successfully
complete the Center's Summer Institute.
We are determined to continue the Summer Institute tradition, and also try to stay
in touch with our students. This page will be updated periodically and we will always open to suggestions and  updates  from you and our students.
To be found here are pictures from  previous institutes, as well as our student's remarks and comments about it. Some of them offered to make their own e-mail available for those interested in taking the  Summer Institute   and wishing  to find out more
first-hand information about the Institute.
Via this page, we are  to share some of our summer memories.

...ABOUT THE COURSE
...ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Excellent overview  of  significantchallenges facing the global South. Especially inspirational for  one  in the field of development.  Excellent. No other could replace him.
He brought his valuable insight to the course.
Overall it was very informative and well worth the cost. Classes were extreemly interesting.
Very informative and well planned out. Both the Professor and the TAs contributed knowledge and efforts that were outstanding and productive. Best class I took at AU. Very well informed and able to communicate his complex ideas in an understandable fashion.
He seems to enjoy teaching very much. He does not press us but stimulates us with his richness of knowledge.
I loved this course and the instructor. I learned so much in such a short period of time. I genuinly wish that American offered more courses like this, and the way it was structured! The UN field Trip was a wonderful experience and having speakers come to speak  on different facets and from the perspective of the global South was enlightning. I would reccomen this course to anyone in any major!
Broad analysis, good materials and excellent field trips. Knowledgeable and personal, always willing to assist.
UN & other field trips were so interesting and I could have the most wonerdful experiences. Many speakers were so good, and so were the discussions. He is very knowledgeable, intellectual and has so many experiences.
The field trips were excellent. Readings fit  speakers and topics well. Class was always engaging. Very know;edgeable, and always excited about the class and discussions.
The class was great, full of great opportunities, field trips. The TA was also very helpful. Very knowledgeable and helpful instructor always open to discussion.
The course covered various topics, field trips. We encountered the top experts in the field. Excellent readings. Very kind, articulate, extreemly knowledgeable and excited about the subject.
