This is Lesson 9 chat page
The year is 1650. You are a Spanish colonial administrator in a town
in Peru.
For many years you have been favoring the landowners and exploiting
the Indigenous people of the area, in violation of the King's "new
laws"which were passed at the urging of Father Las Casas.
You are now on trial for these violations. What arguments do you use
to defend yourself?
Note: In later versions of this web site
we plan to have a "chat room" where you will be able to answer
the question, post your answer, have other students (and the instructor)
read your comments and make their own comments. For the moment you might
want to type your answers in a word processing program and let the instructor
have them for extra credit. We will also be discussing these questions orally
in class.
