Question SA-8. Here is the text reference (p. 151/3):
Modernism was new and escapist; it turned its back on the emotional
excesses of Romanticism, the naiveté of Costumbrismo, the photographic
representation of Realism, and the socio-political commitment of Naturalism
that was influenced by Positivism. The impact of Modernism stemmed from
its novelty, freshness, symbolism, and its unique images, color, and musical
sounds. The Modernist lived in an ivory tower, and from those heights could
ignore with disdain the ugly realities that existed below in the day to
day existence of lesser people.
