This is the "Introduction" page, in which we would like to
tell you a little bit about the Web Site for LAHAL (American University
course "Latin America: History, Art, Literature").
We developed the first version of the Web Site over the summer of 1997,
with help from Terry Fernandez of the University's New Media Center (part
of the University Computing Center). This version (Spring 98) makes a few
changes and adds some animation.
The Web Site contains most of the information which is also made available
to students in the form of two floppy disks (one for mid-term, one for final
exam). Students who had MS-DOS (IBM-compatible) computers used to complain
that since the floppy disks were on Macintosh Hypercard software, they could
not use them without spending a lot of time in the computer or language
lab.
Hopefully, this Web Site will make the review material available more
widely. We tried it out on a test basis in the Fall 1997 semester, and it
seemed to be well received. It is still being developed, so any suggestions
or correction will be most welcome.
