Finland's high technology exports in 1994 were FIM 23.9 billion. Total high-tech exports, in 1995, were projected to increase by 20 percent. 1995 also saw the value of high-tech exports surpass that of imports for the first time. These exports include telecommunications equipment, mobile phones, computers, measurement devices and pharmaceuticals. The electronics and electrical sector now accounts for 20 percent of total exports.


NOKIA

Nokia Mobile Phones is a lead manufacturer of mobile phones. Nokia products are sold in over 100 countries. Motorola is the only manufacturer that makes more mobile phones than Nokia. In the mobile phone niche, Nokia is a global player.

The former Soviet Union is supplied by Nokia with mobile phones and networks. Nokia has entered into a consortium called the North-West GSM based in St. Petersburg. Nokia is supplying base stations, switches and a large part of the terminals.

Nokia Telecommunications is one of the leading suppliers of open standard infrastructure for analog NMT and GSM networks.
